stepping into !)esign World :)

Hi Reader, Myself Sabiya, I am going to share few basic insights of User Research through this tiny article.

For us to understand anything better we first need to know the answers of WH -questions, so i will brief you What, Why & How of User Research.

►What is User Research ?

The process of finding out needs & goals of users. It provides actionable & testing insights into user needs.

►why do we need to do User Research ?

We do research to ensure we are solving a problem that actually exists in user’s life which enables us to make better design and strategic decisions.

(What should we design? For whom? Why? How well did we do?) These are the questions that guide our research activities.

It helps us identify, prove or disprove our assumptions, find commonalities across our target audience members, and recognise their needs, goals, and mental models.

►How to do User research?

Gathering and Analysing data

Research has two main parts:

  • Gathering data
  • Analysing that data to improve utility and to ensure functioning and usability.
  • During the research, two types of data are gathered — quantitative and qualitative research.

►Methods of User Research:

There are many methods to conduct user research, fundamentally there are two ways

Quantitative

Qualitative

⚖︎Quantitative Research:

offers answers to “How many or how much “, for instance…It is most valuable in understanding the statistical likelihood and on what is happening on a page, within a service, or in an app. It is any research that can be measured numerically.

  • “How many users clicked this or that interaction or option?”
  • “What percentage of users are able to find the call to action?”
  • Quantitative research is based on many participants — often around 30 to 50 users.

♆Qualitative Research:

It often takes the form of interviews or conversations. Qualitative research helps us getting clarity or an idea WHY users do the things they do or do not. And it is often called the “soft” type of researching.

  • “Why did users not see or use this or that interaction or option?”
  • “What else did users notice or miss on the page?”
  • Qualitative research involves a small number of users. Depending on time and budget and project scope this should be 3–10 users.

►How does User Research helps us ?

►When should we do User Research ?

It can be done anytime of the design process of the product/app/service, can also be done during redesign or as soon as you have a final working product.

⚘Conclusion :

These days, there’s a lot more you can do to uncover insights about how your target users interact with your product / brand. So a well done User Research will mark an impact and makes design process accurate and easier.

Research is to see what everybody else has seen and to think what nobody else has thought. _Albert Szent Gyorgyi.

Thanks for reading, hope this article helped you to get an idea about understand User Research.

Happy Researching :)
